Connect calls industrial action in BT

We have been in intensive discussions with BT following the result of our postal ballot on industrial action, in which over 81 per cent of you voted in favour of action, on a high turnout of over 51 per cent.

Unfortunately, BT has not been prepared to change its position and we are, therefore, left with no alternative but to begin industrial action on Tuesday 27 May.

We will be writing to you at your home address with further details closer to the start of the action, but this industrial action short of a strike will mean that you should work your contracted hours. You should stop 'going the extra mile' for the company, making sure that you switch off your PC, mobile and BlackBerry outside working hours, that you go home on time and take breaks, and that you do not travel outside your normal working hours.

Remember that BT has relied on your goodwill for too long, and that industrial action is now the only way to persuade BT to move.

We are now unable to communicate with you using your BT email address. Please add union@connectuk.org to the address book in your private (non BT) email and encourage your colleagues to supply us with their private (non BT) email if they have not already done so at www.connectuk.org/homeemail.

Remember too that not all your colleagues have a private email address, and it is therefore essential that you discuss this announcement on industrial action with your colleagues straight away and keep each other informed.

Keep looking out for updates.
